Davis Soon To Be Replaced By Campo?

Chris Mortenson reports that the Cleveland Browns are on the verge of firing Butch Davis.

He could be replaced by defensive coordinator Dave Campo, which is funny to me.

Anyway, I don’t especially care what these former Cowboys assistants wind up doing, aside from the fact that Butch Davis once coached at good ol’ Pawhuska (OK) High School.

I hate to see a good Husky get fired, but he could do worse than land at Florida.

  • Botch. True Canes fans do not universally love Botch Davis. If he goes to coach at Florida, the hate will really fly. No true Cane could ever coach at Florida.

  • Oh yeah, I’m expecting some real hate if it happens! But come on, that’ll liven things up. Zook had no way of competing on the a-hole scale with Spurrier, and the Canes smack Booby Bowden around so much that ya’ll have to be getting a little bored! Fresh blood, near treasonous behavior. Ooh!

And even if you Canes fans bring the hate, we devoted Pawhuska Huskies fans will wish him well. heh.

All two of us, right Dave? Dave???

Does anybody know if Butch Davis and Larry Coker coached together at OSU? I want to say surely they did, but I didn’t follow that other school in Oklahoma back then, and I’m too lazy to go try and figure it out at the moment….

  • Some good sources on the Canes’ message board are saying that Meyer to Florida is all but a done deal.

Which means Florida’s coach will have the initials UM. We really own the state.

And in answer to your question, no, Davis and Coker missed each other. Davis worked with JJ when the latter coached OSU, from 79-83. Coker only got to OSU in 1984, which was JJ and Davis’ first year at the U.

  • Ha ha, well, I’d like to see Meyer’s offense in action with Florida-style athletes, and I like it even more now that you mention the initials. That’s great!

I knew someone would know that Coker/Davis info, and I could be lazy. Thanks! 🙂
