Lone Star Times

Dan Patrick launched his latest endeavor today: the Lone Star Times.

Unfortunately, Patrick’s successor to Chronically Biased doesn’t render properly in Firefox, so it’s hard to say much about the thing.

Here’s wishing them well in their new project, though, which seems to be the “internet newspaper” that Patrick has longed for.

Meanwhile, a few of us refugees from internet newspaperdom are doing exactly what we want to be doing over at blogHOUSTON.

May Chronically Biased Rest In Peace.

(Update) For you folks not from Houston (I always forget there are bunches of you), I should note that the Dan Patrick in question is the local conservative political talk guy, NOT the ESPN sports dude.

  • Is that Dan Patrick from ESPN? Or someone else I need to give a dang about?

    PROGRAM!!!!!!

  • Oh goodness no, it’s a local conservative talk radio dude whose name is the same. 🙂

  • Well, I can say LST has one improvement over CB and that’s the lack of commenters. Maybe that will change, down the road, once all the devotees figure out they can’t rant and rave like loons.

  • I don’t think it will change because I don’t think that software has a comment facility. It’s "letters to the editor" or nothing, so far as I can tell.

It’s a brave new internet newspaper world, Anne!

  • Scott: If you were running some sort of webzine called Lone Star Times, I’d probably be kicking down the door wanting to contribute! We better not talk too much about it, though, or Cindy will have us putting a Texas music webzine out the door…. *wave* Hi Cindy!

  • A number of CB’s previous frequent comment-droppers have let us know that they are unhappy with the lack of such an option at LST.

I will begin to start directing them to this thread… what with this being a "real blog" and not an "internet-newspaper" and all.

    Just kidding. 🙂

  • David: Just don’t send some of the commenters to blogHOUSTON. Some of them might make Anne’s head explode. And keeping Anne’s brain intact and functioning is high on my list of priorities. 🙂

  • OMG! Please, please, please do NOT send those commenters over to blogHOUSTON.

(We could start a guessing game as to who has been complaining about the lack of commenting.)

  • Didn’t YOU start CB? I thought that was your baby, with RAW, and Owen.

You kids have too many blogs. I don’t like all this change, you know.

  • Ha! Yeah, Owen and I were the original bloggers at CB. It was Dan Patrick’s idea. I just designed the thing for him, recruited some additional bloggers, and posted like mad to it — before realizing that I had no control over the quality of the thing (which was below the standards I wanted) and that it was headed in the direction of Lone Star Times (a broad webzine sort of thing that didn’t/doesn’t interest me in the least).

So I bailed on CB quietly, months ago. Now it’s dead. It was a cool idea that never really realized its potential.

We’ll try to limit the change for a while for ya, Scott. Just come hang out at blogHOUSTON from time to time, like your prettier half when she’s not busy musical livecasting from gawd knows where.

  • I can’t believe the LST.c domain was available. I could kick my Texas self for not getting that years ago. Well, whatever. The world needs more webzines.

PS It’s the guest room. Now you, me, and our loving Lord know.

  • Why is it that Dan Patrick is allowed to sit in a programmed time zone and push LST??

Does he own a piece of 700 am radio??

  • Gottagrip: Actually, yeah, KSEV’s his baby. Not sure if he’s sole owner or part of a group (I suspect part of a group), but he’s got carte blanche to run the thing his way.
