The baseball Coogs got a road win they badly needed today at UTSA.
It may not sound like much, but they are so depleted right now by injuries that it’s a good win for this team.
They need to have a good series this weekend against Cincy. With the record at 17-22 now, getting to .500 by the end of the season is still a possibility, if they can just somehow fight through the injuries. A good showing in the conference tourney and a record above .500 would probably be good enough to make a regional given their brutal schedule and recent performance in super-regionals (losing to the eventual national champion the last two years, unfortunately). But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. This has been a fun season regardless now that they’ve straightened out some of the early problems, and Rayner Noble seems to be putting together one hell of a recruiting class for next year. Go Coogs!

Unless Houston goes on an absolute tear to end the season, its postseason hopes are nil. Right now, the Cougars stand only 58th in estimated RPI; anyone below 40th stands only a small chance of receiving an NCAA at-large invitation. Houston’s only realistic hope now is to win the C-USA tournament.
We just gotta get ’em on that tear!
I don’t know if there’s quite enough gas in the tank though. That’s why I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. 🙂
It doesn’t matter. I’ll be out for the rest of the games, although I’ll be out of town for the C-USA tourney, sadly. I’ve really enjoyed this season and watching some guys emerge (Stewart and Roberts especially), aside from fewer wins than I had hoped.
This weekend we have Cincy, who plays like Cindy. I smell a sweep and a Tuesday match with another very beatable Southland team in Sam Houston.
So come mid next week we could improve to 21-22 heading into a tough East Carolina (31-6) away series.
You do realize that given your history watching the team, being out for the rest of the season increases their chances, no? 🙂
Oops, I wasn’t clear. I’ll be OUT AT THE PARK for the rest of the season (except tourney), which probably actually hurts the chances. 🙂
