Messes

I spoke to the Post Office for the third and fourth times today (once to the regular number, and once to a local Service Problems number) about the fact that my old mail is not being forwarded from the move, despite receiving their Confirmation Letter and being assured each time I call that I'm "in the system" (the problem perhaps? As in, it's time to privatizes the bastards). I emailed my Congressman a week ago to request his help, but since I've had no response, I think I'll actually send a snail mail letter today (oh the irony!) to follow up on that.

Up until just now, the circumstance has been kind of funny, since I had switched everything critical to the new address prior to the move (never mind the credit card applications and such that I'm sure are still going to the old address -- identity theft here we come). Today, it stopped being funny. The shop taking care of the flood damage called wondering when we might expect the insurance check, so I called the insurance people. Since the check was mailed yesterday, we might expect it first of next week aside from one problem. Can you guess? They mailed it to the old address despite my updating the address with Farmers (twice) and asking the people processing the claim to make sure the check was sent to my new address, not the old one, because of the forwarding problem. That didn't happen (of course). Fortunately, instead of leaving me at the mercy of the Postal Service, the insurance customer service agent was apparently able to put in a stop-payment/reissue request on the check with the proper address. So maybe, just maybe, by the end of next week, I can get my truck repaired and stop mooching off people for rides. I'll be in Reno/Tahoe next weekend and it won't really matter there, but at least the mess will be resolved.

What a clusterf#ck.
