Receding Waters
What a crazy 48 hours! About 5 pm friday, I'm trying out a new pub (the closest neighborhood pub within walking distance) that turned out to be excellent, 10 hours after that my truck is taking on water from the most intense rainstorm I've ever experienced, 24 hours after that some of the freeways and throughfares are still underwater and I'm wet-vaccing my interior, and now things are finally starting to get back to normal. Aside from some of the freeways, which more closely resemble ponds. I shot some great photos of it all (available here for now), and otherwise just tried to deal with it (which slowed down the unpacking and moving in -- one day I will be done, I keep telling myself!).
Yesterday, I would say a third of the businesses in our area were closed because they had been flooded. We were pleased, however, to walk into Chuy's (featured above) and have some great Tex-Mex. Come hell or high water (or both, as the case may be), you can count on Chuy's. I like how the Chuy's manager responded when we expressed some surprise they were open, and open right on time: "As long as I can get here to unlock the doors, Chuy's will be open." I guess opinions of a couple of high-profile underage bimbos recently busted for breaking the law at the Austin location may disagree.
The excitement yesterday sealed the deal on our skipping the RK show, which somehow went on, though I don't know how the Mucky Duck avoided being soaked. We crashed fairly early after the previous evening's excitement, and I don't really feel like I missed much.
