Fall in Houston

This has been a lovely weekend in Houston.  The fact that I got absolutely nothing done on the dissertation has been offset by the fact that a cold front moved through (finally), giving us the mildest temperatures we've had since April.  I was able to sleep with the windows open last night.  While it's not the same as the mid-October backpacking trip I'm planning to the Ouachita Mountains, it was still refreshing.

Other things that have pleased me this weekend:

• We've become such regulars at Diedrich's coffeeshop that the shift manager comped our drinks tonight.  This is a nice touch, and smart business really.  Little things like that build loyalty.  I appreciated it.
• I spoke to Mrs. Burns at the Icehouse friday night.
• I've been in touch with John and with Camille, two Club 23 types that I've not talked in a while.
• I've thought a great deal about how to proceed with Club 23 Houston
• I had excellent conversation Friday night, even if the martini consumption slowed me a bit on Saturday
• I resolved to go to a 4-day workweek (10 hour days), so that I'll have 3 days in a row to work on the dissertation.
• I grilled some kick-ass shishkabobs.  Sometimes the little things can be nice!

So it doesn't look like I've done all that much this weekend, but I have.  There's just little public evidence of it because it's in my brain.  Public evidence to follow soon!
