Connections?

About a week ago, I blogged several NASA images that showed the REAL polluters of the world are NOT Western industrialized nations, but backwards, socialist/authoritarian nations of Africa, Latin America, and central Eurasia.

On a related note, I'm reading an oil industry publication today when I ran across a feature on Russia's Komi province. Recall that Russia was formerly a mere republic in that great Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the bastion of the new man and a new order for the entire world, if western journalists, Ted Turner, Democrats, and other LeftWingNuts were to be believed before Ronald Reagan banished the evil empire to the dust heap of history. Anyway, it turns out the state oil company and local authorities in Komi just devastated the entire production area and half the damn country. Quoting from the article:

The northern republic of Komi remains a black stain on the country's environmental record as new findings have revealed that crude oil is still being spilled regularly from a rusting old pipeline and oil companies have been slow to clean up an extensive slick left by a 1994 spill....

[A]s of 1 October last year, the oil slick covered more than 464 hectares of land [!] including a 59-hectare area [!] that was the site of the 1994 [!] spill....

KMVP said the estimated total amount of oil spilled over Komineft's five oil deposits around the pipeline and near the Golovnye facilities stood at about 972,000 barrels [!]. An additional 655,000 barrels [!] were contained in special oil-settling pits [!].

Now, LeftWingNuts in the United States would have us believe that this is the normal condition of oil exploration, but in reality, the clean exploration technologies developed by advanced Western exploration firms do not compare at all to exploration practices CONTINUING TODAY IN BACKWARDS NATIONS THAT HAVE (AT ONE POINT OR EVEN STILL) COMPLETELY EMBRACED THE POLITICAL and ECONOMIC PHILOSOPHY of the American LeftWingNuts! I challenge anyone to name any such ongoing exploration-related devastation caused by a Western E&P firm in ANY Western nation. It can't be done.

Unless, of course, one lives in the fantasy world of American LeftWingNuts.
