Random Thoughts

Last night, I was worn out from unpacking and arranging and crashed out on the futon flipping channels when I found a taped show of a band performing at the Sidecar Pub. They had a really nice sound. So I checked out their website and found out that 24 Count is a local Houston alternative band that has not been together very long at all to sound as good as they do. They also have their debut/promo cd up for download in its entirety. After listening to their stuff off and on today, I can't wait to catch these guys live sometime soon. I should also note that they have a nicely done website. Much better, in fact, than the crappy site of another Texas band (with a much different sound) I like quite a bit.

The unpacking and such continues. All of the home network is now back up and running. I do have my priorities after all! The kitchen is unpacked, but looks like a disaster area. Ditto the dining room and bedroom. It's shaping up, though. Photos will be forthcoming when we make a bit more progress.

We also have a busted water main within about 30 yards of the place. This main breaks in the same spot every two years, according to the neighbors. Another fine example of Lee Brown's America. If it's not fixed by the time I get home tomorrow (yeah, right, ha ha!) I'll snap a photo and get it online. Apparently it's been this way for a week or so.

My best friend Micah, his wife, and baby (Adric -- cool name) roadtripped down to help with the move, then spent Friday night in Galveston afterwards, for which we joined them part of the time. Somehow Micah is always around during major events. We had a nice dinner in Galveston at Gaido's, a well known seafood place. I wouldn't say their food is the greatest, but the service is always top notch, and it's just a "nice" place to go every once in a while. Even though we had just gotten together during the float trip, it was good to see Micah. Such friendships are rare.

I REALLY like the new place compared to the old (QUIET -- no Cro-Magnon!), but I haven't really had time just yet to reflect on the old place. I'm a little sappy that way. I get attached to places even though I don't really "miss" them. The old place marked my first place in Montrose, and served its purpose quite well. It's also the first place Callie and I lived together, although the new place is more "ours" since I was already living there when I met her. It was also Kiwi's first home. Lots of good things. Aside from Cro-Magnon.

I've been extremely detached from the internet and web goings on over the past week or so, with the float trip and move, and I still don't quite feel plugged back in to the happenings of the world, real or net. Heading back to work tomorrow should get me in the swing of things again.
