Montrose in the Daytime

This damn rain has flooded my hiking trails!

I really enjoy working from home a few days a week. For one thing, it certainly reduces stress levels not to have to deal with Houston drivers, even though my commute is a short one that doesn't involve the freeways. For another, it's just nice not to have to get out much on sloppy, cold, rainy days (tired of hearing me complain about this yet?). But one of the really nice things about it is that I get a chance to observe the goings on in Montrose while "normal" people are all at work.

I had breakfast earlier at a wonderful, anachronistic place in Montrose, the 59 Diner. We had our usual waitress, this daffy elderly woman whose daffiness (is that a word?) always cheers me. So when the water she was carrying flew out of her hand and soaked the Houston Press I was reading (but thankfully not me or Callie), her reaction to it made the whole thing almost worth doing again sometime. We finally managed to order, and then the elderly couple who own the place wandered in. The older gentleman always putters around inspecting things, but never really appears to be doing any work. He was engaged in deep study of the seating sign (you know, one of those reversible "Please Be Seated - Please Wait to be Seated" things) and decided something was just wrong. So he moved it about a foot, changing the angle slightly, then wandered off to the kitchen. Then his wife, who works the cash register, wandered in about 5 minutes behind him, took her spot at the cash register, and noticed something was amiss. That's right, the seating sign just wasn't right! So she got up and moved it back exactly where it had been, changing the angle back as well. Too funny.

Nice of you to send that rain up this way. ;) I have to put up with this through Monday night.

This would be a good time to say Blar!, wouldn't it.

Just wanted to mention that I loved the observation of the old married couple and the sign -- made me laugh. I love noticing those little things that people do. I'd bet they do this on a regular basis!

Cold? Son, have you forgotten your roots? Your low temperature for today will be approximately our high temperature for the day. I say enjoy the "cold snap" and move forward.

And always remember... you could still be stuck in Iowa!
