Allison

Tropical Storm Allison formed in record time, blew in last night, and caused some wicked flash flooding. I honestly didn't think it was going to be so wild, so we ventured out (dumbly) in search of food. Several of the intersections were already flooding, so we hit the grocery store and found ourselves unable to retrace our original route because of high water. After driving around a bit trying to find an alternate route back, the water was getting much too deep, so we hung out for a couple of hours at Jason's Deli, home of the excellent Deli Cowboy sandwich. Yes, it's called the Deli Cowboy -- this incredible barbecued brisket/cheddar cheese/onions sandwich. I've no idea why it's named that, but it's kind of funny. The waters finally receded, and we made it back safely.

The water main just outside is still leaking, but now Lee Brown's America has parked a backhoe nearby. It's been there for a couple of days now, but repairs have not commenced. I still need to shoot a photo of the thing.

COMMENTS

Ack! Water, water, everywhere, and WAY more than we needed to break the drought! Parts of Lafayette Parish had 15-24 inches of rain in three days. Jesus! Hope y'all in Houston aren't drowning...
