Missing Fire Hydrant: Day 31
Lee Brown's America-Houston Held Hostage

Digital Live Music

A few days ago, a guy who has worked sound for RK sent us some mp3 files that he ripped from various DAT>CD-R recordings he made from shows he's worked.  He included a really interesting version of Eight Miles High by the Byrds, which is unrecognizable.  Also, he sent us 15 songs from a rare appearance of Willy Braun (lead singer, guitar, writer, and it turns out, harmonica also) and Jay Nazz (drummer) together at a club in Connecticut (Jay's home).  Some of the mp3s needed a fair amount of digital remastering, because the cd in question was probably copied CD-ROM directly to CD-R, which can introduce some rather nasty pops and such.  Plus the master recordings needed to be normalized.  After spending most of the evening on the project, they now sound really nice.  It was a fair amount of work, but the reward was worth it: rare live recordings that actually now sound better than the originals.  This stuff is addictive.
