Obsessing

A child remains in me.  I hope it never goes away, actually.  But at times, this aspect of my personality probably makes people question my sanity, because I tend to obsess.  The current obsession is live digital music.  It started as something I sort of pooh-poohed -- actually somewhat amused that Callie thought she needed to record a 1999 Reckless Kelly show -- and it's morphed into my most time-consuming hobby (web stuff would rank first, but I'm largely maintaining rather than developing new stuff, which takes far less time).  Initially, a few live music clips got processed from the minidisc via RealProducer into RealAudio files for that single page.  I maybe had 5 clips up.  And then suddenly I got into the whole thing.  Entire shows could be turned into wavs then into mp3s, and organized, and converted into web audioclips.  And Microsoft, wanting to kick RealAudio's ass, would come out with the most flexible free encoder for streaming audio/video to date, Windows Media Encoder.  Nice!  The single little page morphed into a huge page surrounded by an entire site devoted to Reckless Kelly.  And I've added a new soundcard to make the production more efficient and of higher quality.  And additional software.  Yet I'm still behind on the converting and encoding, and minor little blips in the encoding drive me crazy!  I'm obsessing.  Like a small child.  Except small children don't go reading all about ATRAC standards and amplified condenser mike specifications.  Nope, that's for grown children.  Grown obsessed children.
