Outlaws and Inlaws

Today, we took my parents down to the Kemah boardwalk.  It's kind of a strange place, because commercial developers just decided to MAKE an attraction in a place where there is no real reason for one to exist (it's 20 minutes off the freeway, on horrible roads).  So in the past few years, restaurants, shops, and attractions have just sprung up in this harbor that used to have a few fishing boats and docks.  Don't get me wrong, it's a neat place -- it just has no reason for existing other than the vision of developers.  It had a decent amount of traffic, but not overwhelming.  I'm curious if, long-term, those developers will see a significant return on their investment.  Obviously, they are targeting Galveston, which has not always been the most tourist-conscious place.  Interesting stuff.

We then got together my parents with Callie's parents and had an excellent dinner at Spanish Village.  The people there take such good care of us.  "Mama" Medina asked me as I was leaving if this was a gathering of the "outlaws and inlaws" which made me laugh.  She then proceeded to tell my parents they had done a good job with me.  Embarrassing!  But you gotta love a restaurant in a metro area of 4 million people where that sort of thing is fairly regular.
