Rudz Graffiti
Reading: The Constitution Besieged, The Transformation of American Law, Vol 2, The Age of Reagan
I took in dinner and a few beers (though no music, for a change) at Rudyard's last night with friends, and chatted about recent events. Rudyard's is one of my favorite quirky little Montrose bars, one of its quirks being that its bathroom graffiti is the most interesting of any pub I've ever visited. Last night, however, it was better than usual, as I got to read an exchange involving people I actually know (one of whom is so chronically annoying that I refer to him as the world's largest recurring hemorrhoid, or just Rhoid for short; I used to see him at live music events, where he would get drunk off his ass and proceed to annoy everyone in sight by being a clumsy, sloppy drunk). Anyway, I can't recall ever knowing any of the protagonists of bar restroom graffiti before, so chalk that up as an historic (though probably not notable) first.

On other topics, I noticed someone on the web who just two months ago professed to be an Objectivist type is now extolling the virtues of Stanley Fish. *sigh* I wonder if some bright people just bounce constantly to the next shiny idea, without ever acquiring an ability to evaluate them critically (and then, truly to integrate them).

Elsewhere, an ongoing discussion on the web that boils down to positive and negative rights (a monologue really, since one party has simply avoided the crux of the discussion) reminds me why I rarely engage in public "discussion" on the web (punditry, of course, is a different matter). I *do* like the economic (law and economic, more properly) formulation proffered by one of the parties, however.

Enough cruising the web for amusement, and back to cranking on the dissertation and even a trip to the gym, activities that have occupied most of my weekend (aside from a little time for Rudz, and a little time for Hayward's Age of Reagan, which is tremendous -- I'll post some excerpts soon).
