Good Predictions

Some workdays are better than others.

In my regular update of Poland at work way back in June, I made the following prediction:

The ruling AWS is going to be handily defeated in upcoming parliamentary elections by President Kwasniewski's Social Democrats (SLD). The only question is whether the newly formed liberal-conservative Civic Platform, a party with appeal to the middle, will draw enough votes to prevent an outright SLD majority.

I was pleased to see that the BBC is today reporting that the SLD has handily defeated the ruling party, winning 41% of the vote. And the question I raised? Now answered -- the Civic Platform came in second in the voting with about 13% of the vote, blocking an outright SLD majority.

Not a bad call.
