Portable MP3

STILL Listening to: Rudz bootleg of 24 Count

I've long wanted a portable MP3 player, but thought the cost was excessive. But recent downward movement of prices coupled with switching to the new gym (which does not have the netpulse bikes like the old gym, which I could use to play cds through headphones while reading) has moved me to order a Nomad IIc, which is pretty affordable at Amazon ($99 bucks, reduced by 10 bucks with a coupon from DealNews). I have been SO bored riding the bike this week at the gym, and because I ride at a really high resistance (to make up for not making it to the gym often enough), I find it difficult to read while working out. Music helps immensely, so I think this will be a nice purchase. The added benefit is that it has 32mb built in (enough for quite a bit of music if one reduces the quality -- hardly noticeable when one is riding at the gym using crappy lightweight headphones anyway) and uses SmartMedia cards for expansion (which the digital camera uses also).

Lately, I feel like I have been buying a lot of "useless" gadgets (stuff that gives me pleasure but that I don't really NEED), and I mulled over that thought for several days before going ahead with the purchase. It's still probably money better invested in the depressed NASDAQ or elsewhere. Maybe it would be better to be a dog or other creature that doesn't balance future needs with current desires? Nah.
