More Cro-Magnon
At the bottom of an entry from earlier this week, I mentioned feeling sorry for Cro-Magnon, who was drenched by a recent rainstorm because the door to his truck is damaged. I just got home to find Cro-Magnon's truck parked like Cro-Magnon sometimes parks it (like an idiot), and decided to take the opportunity to snap a photo (digital!) of it (far right -- note the size of the thing, and that his parking effort angles well over the line). For those who care, my own truck is on the left, and Callie's Cobra (piece of junk -- she will hit me for saying that) is on the far left. If you are wondering -- no, I'm certain Cro-Magnon didn't bang his door into mine. He never does that. He just sometimes parks like an idiot, and then contorts himself like you would not believe in order to avoid hurting the vehicle he's beside. I'd love to have a photo of it, actually, but he'd probably come club me if he saw me, and I don't wanna risk it. Now, you might think that he could actually park reasonably, so the contortionist routine wouldn't be necessary. But that just wouldn't be our Cro-Magnon!
Something I've never mentioned about Cro-Magnon: the guy has plants. He keeps plants outside his apartment in large pots. When there is a threat of freeze (rare) in the winter, he will move them all inside. They are fairly low maintenance plants, but it's something I've always found unusual. I thought agriculture came well after Cro-Magnon man, you see. Anyway, if I can remember sometime when Cro-Magnon is not home (again, I don't want to get clubbed), I'll take the digital camera out and snap a photo of Cro-Magnon's plants.
The experience with Cro-Magnon is rapidly drawing to a close. We move at the end of the month. To answer a previous query from Tonto -- no, we are not leaving the Montrose area. We're moving to the far south and west side of Montrose, within walking distance to a Borders, Whole Foods Market, Whole Earth (a backpacking/outdoors store), and the Icehouse, among other things. So, while we will be leaving people like Steve/Carl and Cro-Magnon behind, no doubt I will be finding many new characters. After all, it's Montrose, where there are plenty of them, and I never seem to have trouble finding them!

Hey, great shots!! Glad to see you're using your new camera. :)
I laughed at the parking picture. He has SO MUCH ROOM on the right there. People who park like this make me crazy. One of these days when I get old and a little senile, I can see myself yelling my head off at people like this.
I am pleased to note that you are parked in nearly the exact dead center of your parking space. I'm proud. The world needs more parkers like you.

Well, at least he *doesn't* bang your car with his door. I had a similar Cro-magnon in the apartments downstairs (there are 5 efficiency apartments downstairs that seem to attract the damnedest folks) who had a similar huge truck, only it was robin's egg blue and I constantly found blue dings on the side of my car. Not to mention that at some point in being parked down there, someone totally smashed into my driver's side rear just above the bumper and below the light, a very ugly spot thats not worth calling the insurance on but I'm pissed no one left a note. My car body was in perfect condition too, which is amazing for a 1987 piece of crap.
PS. I agree with the Cobra statement, gawd, don't get me started...plus I still owe Callie email!

mel...kev....
MY CAR IS NOT A PIECE OF JUNK!!
*hits kev; hits mel*
ok...maybe it is. i still love it. sagging door, cracked windshield, low performance, and leaky windows notwithstanding. not to mention one recall down, two to go.
after all, quality is job one. or something.
cro magnon is kinda strange [understatement alert]. for some reason, he prefers to back into his parking space. only then does he park perfectly. turning into the parking space front first seems to throw him off. it might be a function of his clunky truck. then again, maybe hunter/gatherers like keeping their backs to the wall, err fence.

I thoroughly enjoyed the recent Journal entries on Cro-Magnon and Poker House (alleged) =)
The cars are fine, people. I know mel's and it rules and I am sure yours is great too, Callie. After all, what they have lost in performance, they have gained in emotional charge :)
Although I am new to this page and forum I am going to miss Cro-Magnon =( Which is probably more than you can say, Kevin =)

My neighborhood also has a cro-magnon, (he's about 40 and still lives with his mama). He races a radio control car up and down the street (extremely noisy) and sometimes he crashes it (all the kids in the neighboorhood laugh). He also races his motorcyle out of the drive way and sometimes he crashes that (all the adults in the neighboor hood laugh after making sure he's ok, which he assures all he is, as he stomps off brushing gravel from of his skin). And sometimes he just fights with the neighbors. Well, I'm not moving, and I don't think his mother is either, so if anybody get's lonely for a cro-magnon fix and Kevin manages to escape from them in the next home, just let me know, I'll have plenty to report on. I haven't found a gambling house in my area yet, but the search is on!

Loved your posts on Cro-Magnon!! Just made me laugh out loud....in a sleeping household! Woops!
Hey...we just got rid of our local prostitute/crackhouse!! Yippie!
It was kitty-corner to ours.....and we didn't notice it when we moved in....I'm amazed how quiet the neighborhood is now that the foot traffic is gone! ....does a happy dance.... :)~
