Missing Fire Hydrant: Day 35
Lee Brown's America-Houston Held Hostage

Cro-Magnon

Sometimes, I think it would be extremely interesting to be able to plug into a person's thoughts.  No, I don't want to know what people are thinking about me.  No, I don't want this power for financial gain.  It's really much simpler than that -- I really want to know why idiots are the way they are.  I'm thinking of this tonight, because my downstairs neighbor (whom I have given the name Cro-Magnon, because he seems like a very primitive person in oh so many ways) has arrived home for the evening.  How do I know this?  Because Cro-Magnon has not once left or entered his apartment -- front door or back -- without slamming his door hard enough to rattle the whole damn place.  I don't know what compels Cro-Magnon to do this (or, similarly, what compels idiots at the gym to let hundreds of pounds of weight just slam down on a machine).  Or is he just so stupid he doesn't realize he's doing it, ape-like creature that he seems to be?  I would like to know.

Cro-Magnon also has this annoying tendency to listen to 80's heavy-bass music very loudly (so perhaps Cro-Magnon is not stupid, but deaf?).  So I have given him his own theme song.  No, that isn't quite accurate.  I've given him a theme, but it's not really a song -- just heavy, repetitive bass, of the sort one might find in a porn flick.  That seems fitting.

One more Cro-Magnon story -- after the crash a few weeks ago, when everyone was outside wondering where the owner of the truck was, Cro-Magnon offered this: "Poor guy's probably upstairs getting laid or something."  Yeah, that was probably it.  That was OH SO MUCH MORE LIKELY than his being across the street in Estancia Grill, having dinner with his girlfriend.  Yep, that porn-like heavy-bass musical theme is just about right.

Interesting discussion with Callie earlier on the nature of political philosophy, Nietzsche's project, Strauss's project, and Heidegger's nonsense.  And a wee bit of discussion on the significance of standard deviation, and if it really tells one anything useful.

Oh, and I found a nice deal on a cable/DSL router with 4 switched ports.  It's NICE!  No more Windows Internet Connection Sharing here!
