What Shall I Do When I Grow Up?

Some might dispute that I will ever grow up.  I actually dispute that I will ever grow up.

But seriously, interesting things that involve me are going on at work, but I seem to know less about them than anyone.  Apparently, there is some movement to get me move heavily involved in petroleum economics.  I've expressed interest in the past in such a thing, and continue to express interest in it, because petroleum economics along, of course, with petroleum geology and petroleum engineering ,are the golden triad of international E&P exploration.  My current responsibility -- political risk analysis -- is simply a very small component of the petroleum economics side, because at the end of the day companies want to know what political circumstances will: 1) cost them or 2) benefit them.  I've long thought that I need a better conceptual understanding of petroleum economics (and thus the industry) in order to do industry-specific political risk.  I do not, however, want to give up the political risk altogether simply to do petroleum economics.  So I guess we'll just wait and see what transpires.  It IS somewhat flattering to know that my skills and talents are recognized by at least a few people in the organization, especially given that I have ZERO petroleum economics training.

An email from Samantha today proved to be a bit of a shocker, but congratulations are in order to her, as she seems happily to be achieving her values and this, in turn, makes Kev happy.

More congratulations are in order to Jonelin, who is understandably pleased at her engagement!

A couple of days after slightly revamping my blog/journal links page, I've expanded the thing to include what is basically my daily reading, the sources I most frequently read for the wild and wacky view of the world presented in Reductio Ad Absurdum.  This will let me more easily keep up with things that matter whether I'm at home, at work, in Oklahoma, in London, or wherever else I might track down a connection to the net.  I'm an information and analysis addict, aren't I?

Both Callie and Mr. Vaughn are sick with the flu, which is a depressing development before our fairly regular Friday get-together.  Blar.
