Sunlight!

The night in Ennis was altogether pleasant.  Strangely, this whole weird Xmas break has been that way.  I rather enjoyed the extra "down" time in Oklahoma because of the snow that delayed my trip.  I didn't mind conditions being so nasty that I pretty much stayed in my whole time in Oklahoma.  And even the night in Ennis was fine by me.  I got some much-needed down time, and I think I needed it.

The journal entries from the last few days reflect the down time.  They are the worst sorts of journal entries -- journals chronicling a whole bunch of nothing, with no real analytical component.  That was probably the longest stretch that's ever happened with the rather young journal, because it's rare that I'm not analyzing and observing and probing and writing about it.  But along with thoughts of work, Houston, bills, dissertation, books, and all of the other things on which I work (and play) quite hard, that was banished for a few days of recharging as well.

And now?  Batteries are charged and I'm ready!

The most notable sight of the day: I've seen actual sunlight and cloudless skies, for the first time since... I left Houston!  The first post-freezing temperatures were welcome also.

The second most notable sight of the day: my computer actually booting up, recognizing the new sound card, and loading Win98 properly.  This fine sight eluded me on the first attempt, when I left one lone file from the old on-board sound card in the startup, crashing windows upon an initial boot, killing it further during an unsuccessful safe-mode boot attempt, and finally just resulting in a black screen of death.

One of my friends -- I forget which one -- once referred to Alanis Morrisette as "that silly-ass screaming bitch."  Listening to her just a moment ago on MusicMatch radio caused me to nod in agreement before clicking her off.
