"Can you believe this f***ing mess?!"

-- My friend Mr. Hutchison on the election night fiasco

Election Day Postmortem

We still do not have a declared President-elect, despite an entire day of recounting ballots.  After staying up till 4 or so in the morning watching the networks totally bungle their coverage, and waiting all day today for the recount, still no word.  I don't feel very good about the outcome for Mr. Bush -- even if he somehow manages to squeak through FL and win the electoral college, he has no mandate to govern, and this will serve to weaken the nation; and of course the electoral college system will come under fire (which will depress me even more -- but more on this after the election is called).  If Mr. Gore wins, it will be discouraging both because the Bush campaign staff will have frittered the election away, and because Gore's negative, divisive politics will be rewarded.  Nobody wins after this one.

As for my own election prediction -- what can I say but I blew the call bigtime.  *shrug*  I guess I can take some solace in the fact that Bush's campaign staff blew their calls bigtime as well.

It is nice finally to be able to drive through town without all sorts of political signs all over the place.  Well, it would be nice, except for the fact that there are Ralph Nader signs all over public areas still.  Isn't it a little hypocritical for the damn Green Party to leave all of their signs out to contaminate the environment?  Typical.
