Civilization

We said our goodbyes to Camille, and blasted out of the Maines family pasture/Dilla Fest and back towards Houston.  Not much to write about, just a long stretch of road and the realization that the grand adventure was winding down, soon to be replaced by civilization.

What a great week and a half or so, though!  The business end of things went well, I got to see my parents, I showed Callie my hometown for the first time, I did an excellent backpacking expedition and broke Callie in to the hobby that consumes me, I saw Micah and Camille, I saw RK put on one hell of a show in a setting that was entirely surreal and capped off the whole adventure perfectly, and I got Callie all to myself for more time than I've ever had.  I call that a smashing success.

It's odd being back, though.  When I'm out in the woods, I don't miss the email and the net and the stereo and the presidential politics and the international affairs and all this stuff that consumes me when I'm in the city.  But I'm just as pleased to be sitting here updating the journal tonight.  And tomorrow, it will be refreshing to catch up on what has been quite a busy week or so in international affairs and domestic politics.  Life is good, to quote Jerry Jeff Walker.
