Sooners, Dillas, RK

What a restful evening!  A real bed as opposed to my thermarest pad and sleeping bag!  And shower.  Nice!

It happened again.  We're having breakfast downstairs, and an older man approaches and sticks out his hand to shake mine.  I'm a little confused, as he asks if I play a mandolin left-handed!  I tell him I couldn't play a musical instrument to save my life, but that I was enjoying eating my eggs left-handed.  He then asked if I wasn't the "fellow playing the mandolin left-handed at the festival last weekend?"  Nope, sorry.  But it sounded like a lot of fun!  Then we packed up and headed towards Shreveport.

We checked out the location of the Dilla Fest near Shreveport.  It literally IS in a pasture in the middle of nowhere, some 10-15 miles from Shreveport.  We then head back to Shreveport and stop at the bar in a Holiday Inn.  Why?  Well, to see the second half of the OU-Kansas State game.  The Sooners kicked ass for the second week in a row.  These guys may be for real, although they are SO young and lacking in depth at some positions.  But teams just don't travel to Manhattan and win, much less dominate.  Oklahoma did.  Wow!

Then it was off to the Dilla Fest.  Basically, it's a music festival in the middle of a private pasture!  Several hundred people are piled in a field in the middle of nowhere in Louisiana, drinking beer, barbecuing, and listening to music.  We get our tent set up before the sun goes down (the thing started at 11 am!  I'm wishing we had gotten there for more of it) and listen to some of the music while waiting for Camille (my wonderful med student friend from Shreveport whom I've mentioned before).  She finally shows and we wander around a bit.  And after we chat for a bit longer, it's FINALLY time for Reckless Kelly (about 11 pm?).  And they rocked.  Blew me away actually.  I don't know how they keep getting better, but they do.  Check out 8 More Miles for more detailed reviews.  I'll just say we really enjoyed the show.  And we watched from the front of the stage, like they were playing just for us (most of the people were back in the woods, fatigued from a day of drinking, smoking, etc).  We nabbed the setlists, and talked to David Abeyta (from Bartlesville, OK!) a bit afterwards, who is damn nice guy in addition to being one incredible guitarist; he was quite pleased to hear that OU had kicked ass!  Then it was off to the tents to crash.  Not a bad conclusion to the whole adventure!
