Sooner Stampede

It's been ages since I watched an OU football game with my dad.  What a game to watch today!  It was the annual Oklahoma-Texas shootout.  But it was hardly a shootout.  Oklahoma rolled the Longhorns, with a final score of 63-14.  It was an incredible effort, considering that Texas probably has more talent than Oklahoma right now, and that they have had the top recruiting classes in the country over the past two years.  Somebody forgot to tell Bob Stoops and the Sooners, because they just dominated every phase of the game.  I have thought all year that Texas has been overrated -- because their coaching staff has great recruiters and so-so coaches -- and I stand by that.  What I'm not entirely sure about is if Oklahoma is as good as they looked today, or they simply took advantage of a poorly prepared Texas team.  We will find out next week when Oklahoma travels to play Kansas State, the team I consider the best in the Big 12.

Next we were off to Poteau to stay with Micah a few days before backpacking.  He's doing quite well, and soon to be a father.  Exciting stuff.  Or scary.  I'm not sure which.  But it was a fine time.  One of the more amusing comments of the evening came when Micah was talking to Callie and found out we had watched the OU game -- he noted that "Now you see where Kevin gets it" in reference to my dad and our occasional (okay, frequent?) obsession with certain football teams.  Funny stuff!
