Pederson: "Doh!"
Nebraska AD Steve Pederson's coaching search is now turning absurd.
Bill Parcells announced today that Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has turned down the Nebraska job to remain with Dallas:
"Mike Zimmer is going to be staying with the Dallas Cowboys," Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said Tuesday.Later today, look for the clueless Pederson to announce that nobody has been offered the job, nobody has turned him down, and that Dick Vermeil, Bill Parcells, and Houston Nutt (and his AD Frank Broyles) are all liars.Added Parcells: "I think Mike did a good job for us. I am just happy that he is staying here with us. I think he wants to be a pro coach."
Zimmer flew to Lincoln, Neb., Sunday night and interviewed Monday with Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson before returning later that evening. After refusing comment several times, Zimmer said he “had a decision to make” when asked if he would return to the Cowboys.
Zimmer made $500,000 this year but was given a significant raise.
Nebraska offered a multi-year deal worth $1.5 million per season, but Zimmer, who has never been a head coach, was apprehensive about taking the job from the moment he was contacted shortly after the Cowboys’ playoff loss at Carolina because of the location and viability of the program.
(Update) ESPN makes it sound like Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells put a hard sell on Zimmer to stay. They also indicate that Pederson may be interested in fired Raider coach Bill Callahan, who turned a Super Bowl team into one of the NFL's worst in one short year. Call it Clueless in pursuit of Failure. Poor Nebraska.

I haven't really commented on their hiring of Bill Callahan (other than calling it Clueless...
