Today, We Become "World Class"

I'm functioning a little below average today (now why would that be? hmm), or I would have joined my rail-happy friends John and Cathy, who have gone downtown to test out the new line.

Maybe I'll still make it down sometime today.

I do imagine that I'll make use of the thing from time to time, and I can certainly envision rail trips down to Reliant for events, or a Continental Club evening followed by a rail trip to downtown for coffee.

And I suspect I'll see other folks like me (who rarely ride the bus) making use of rail this way, too. That'll be cool, although I still have my doubts about the cost effectiveness of it all. But we (taxpayers and voters) have all been heard on this, so full speed ahead I guess. Out of the way, you silly Main Street left-turning fools!

(Update) I'd dang sure use the thing more if I my office were on the line.

No need to have doubts about the cost-effectiveness, Kevin. There's absolutely no doubt that rail is hideously cost-ineffective. :)

And no, the voters were NOT heard on this. Being heard would have been a referendum on the rail line before construction began, or at least the election of a pro-rail mayor. Mayor Brown vowed not to build rail during his first campaign, and then refused to put the issue on any ballot until forced to after the line was half-finished. That made the outcome predetermined.

This was forced down Houston's throat as a part of a national trend. If there are valid reasons for supporting rail, I haven't been privy to them (and Charles, for one, has never bothered to make a genuine argument on the subject).
