Net Campaigns

One of the candidates for President has used the internet to build the biggest email list in American political history.

No no, not Howard Dean. He's WAY behind, according to this Washington Post article.

I'm talking about President Bush:

Bush's campaign has an e-mail list totaling 6 million people, 10 times the number that Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has, and the Bush operation is in the middle of an unprecedented drive to register 3 million new Republican voters. The campaign has set county vote targets in some states and has begun training thousands of volunteers who will recruit an army of door-to-door canvassers for the final days of the election next November.
One can't help but note that blogger and political web guru Patrick Ruffini has been heavily involved in the Bush internet effort this time around (for those who might be interested in the web and politics).

The re-election campaign also is focusing on building the GOP's grassroots, which could pay dividends long after the 2004 election.

Meanwhile, I'm sure the fawning will continue over the Dean internet operation, even after this Balz/Allen WaPo article, which probably makes Karl Rove smile. It's been good so far for the President to be misunderestimated. :)
