What debate?

The GOP held a presidential debate tonight.

During the Rockets/Jazz and Mavericks/Warriors?

Are you kidding me?

It's much too early to care about the politicos, even without two compelling NBA playoff series going on.

So, the Rox are headed home for Game 7. I suspect they will lose and Tracy McGrady will keep that stellar playoff record alive (and Jeff Van Gundy will get to find a job with some other team). I hope I'm wrong. Well, at least about the series outcome. It may be time for a coach other than JVG.

We watched it! The debate, that is. Chris Matthews, the "moderator", was more like an interviewer.

Given the performance of the Texas NBA teams last night, the debate was probably the better SPORTING event as well as political event!

No reason to skewer T-Mac or JVG. The series is going exactly as expected. The two teams had almost identical records and both play well at home. This is where the home court advantage comes into play. I'm sure the Rockets are favored and will most likely win. As our two championship teams showed, it's not how you win a series, it's if that counts.

Actually, I think there is some reason to skewer T-Mac. (Edit: Skewer is too strong -- How about question his game, and JVG's strategy?)

The Utah Jazz play a rough, bruising style designed to intimidate other teams. When T-Mac stops going inside and just floats outside for whatever reason (because of the semi-dirty play of Utah and those hard fouls, possibly?), then the Jazz win the battle of wills and the game.

I think JVG is likely to be out if the Rox don't win this series, and maybe even if they do. There are a few reasons I think this -- 1) media rumblings suggest that Les Alexander isn't enamored of the style of play or JVG's demeanor, and honestly, it's hard to be enamored of the style; 2) JVG's continued insistence that Rafer Alston is a good point guard who needs to be shooting many shots for the team to be successful suggests to me JVG isn't as good a coach as I once believe him to be.

Now, granted, the Rafer talk could just be designed to boost his confidence, but I think it's also possible that JVG is actually happy with his point guard situation. If so, I think you could make a case to reconsider things after the season. :)

It's all speculation at this point, of course. I hope the Rox get Game 7 and get home court for another series (thanks for the choke, Mavs).

Okay, so who replaces JVG?

I'm hoping Les can talk Larry Brown into it.
