Sorry, Stairmaster
Part of the motivation for the whole recommitment to diet/exercise at the start of the year was to get myself in shape to get back out this fall for solo backpacking. That's involved dropping some pounds (about 20 so far), and also regular cardio and weight training for general fitness.

I usually walk over to the gym in my neighborhood, but today it was just pouring, so I decided to take a break from the evil stairmaster. I figure the machine can go back to kicking my arse tomorrow. It really is evil.
But, not as evil as some of those non-switchbacked Ouachita ups/downs I'm planning once the heat breaks. :)

I was at the gym this evening with Ms. Alhambra, no StairMaster however. We hit the weights and did chest and shoulders, then 45 minutes on the treadmill set up to a 15 incline. It's like walking uphill at a moderate pace for about 45 minutes.
Not fun.

You had 20 pounds to drop?
I should do more backpacking. If you feel like doing a dual backpacking, then count me in!

Evan: Yeah, I had put a few extra pounds on in 2005, hence the fairly drastic measures to start the year including about a month-and-a-half of no booze whatsoever. :)
I don't have the right body type for backpacking to start (short legs, stocky build), so it's just no good when I'm carrying some extra pounds. But lately I've been missing the hobby, so I'm looking forward to getting back out some.
