Coogs' Season Ends
The Coogs lost a tough one at the Hammons Student Center (I've been there a few times) in Springfield MO to end their season tonight.
I was only listening to the game, so I don't know if the foul call at the end was legitimate, but it's really tough when a foul call on a made putback decides the game (instead of the players).
The program continued to improve in Tom Penders' second season. His UH teams have played hard every night at Hofheinz, and 21 wins is nice after what has happened in that building for years now. Getting out to so many games has made me a college hoops fan again. I'm ready for next season.
I just hope Coach can find some big men who can contribute next season. Expected inside contributors just didn't pan out this season, and it was tough at times when the three-pointers weren't falling. They need to add some other options for next season.

Don't hold your breath for talented big men. Penders has always had a guard oriented offense and never been able to recruit or develop his forwards. In all his time at UT, I can't remember a single standout forward...Sonny Alvarado is the only one that comes to mind, and he was OK only because he played so hard. Hope for a talented JUCO transfer or two and a trio of guards that all average more than 15 points a game.

It's true that big men are never going to be a focus given Penders' system. That said, UH was really limited this year. Sergio de Randamie had bricks for hands and was only getting junk time by the end of the season, Richard Young was hurt and never really contributed all season. Jahmar Thorpe was not much of a physical presence, although he was a decent player. 6-5 walkon Sam Anderson turned into their only real post presence, offensively and defensively!
That situation has to improve, and I think it will.

How quickly the Longhorns forget their own.
Pender's Elite 8 team had Guillermo “Panama” Myers who started for them and was a very good big. Somewhere in the 6'9-10 range who was a beast on the boards.
Some say he was more a key to that team than Lance Blanks was.
Next year UH has Young, Tree Adife, and Roberson, all of which are supposed to contribute more than they did this year.
The good thing is, in Pender's offense, they don't have to have a scoring touch, just toughness.
Maybe they could grab a TE off the football team.
oh...that's right, Briles doesn't really use the TE position....
Dang.
