Nice Start
Nice home opener for the Coogs.
Last year's team was scrappy and played tough defense, but they were a little short on shooters, especially for a Penders team. This year's team looks to have a few more guys who can shoot. Lafayette and Roberson both seem to have a really nice touch.
And the freshman "Tree" Adiefe.... he's going to be an interesting player to watch as he improves, I think. 8 blocked shots and 7 rebounds isn't a bad debut.
Granted, Florida Tech is gawdawful. I think it was 30-0 before they scored on UH. But still, it's a nice start to the season.
UPDATE: The Chronicle coverage says Tree had 15 rebounds, which is what Tom Franklin said during his interview with Tom Penders after the game. The Cougar coverage says 15 rebounds too, but their box score says 7. Weird.
UPDATE 2: I emailed the Chronicle's Michael Murphy, and he says Tree had 15 rebounds -- 7 defensive, 8 offensive. I bet the 8 got transcribed as 0 in the box scores, hence the discrepancy. I hope UH gets it right on the official box score. A player deserves proper credit for an 8 blocked shot/15 rebound game!

8 blocked shots? That's well beyond Bo Outlaw territory regardless of whether or not the Panthers' starting five is a band of pygmies.

I nearly went to the game. I'm going to try to make it to a few.
Let me know if you're interested.

Greg: Tree may just be scary anchoring that D and starting fast breaks. And he's a freshman! I think he's going to be fun to watch.
Evan: I'll be going to all of 'em that I possibly can (the season ticket commitment sort of gives you that attitude). The place wasn't packed last night (I don't know where they got 4600, but it seemed high), so there was room around our seats (sec 121, row E). If you're in town Saturday, that VCU game should be a little more competitive.

For some reason I thought you only had season tix for baseball.
I may be up for Saturday. I'll be at school doing work, so I may take a break and come watch the second half.

From Tree's player bio ...
Rated as one of the top 20 high school recruits in Florida as a senior by FloridaHoops.com...averaged 12 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocked shots per game...registered five triple doubles including one with 16 points, 18 rebounds and 21 blocked shots against Blanche Ely
What I would give to see a game like that played at the collegiate level. December 3rd, in particular, would be a good day to see this happen.
