The Armadillo Palace

I keep hearing that Jim Goode's Armadillo Palace is going to feature good Texas country music.

So, tonight I checked out the website to see what kinds of acts they're booking.

Very pretty website, even with the annoying music in the background (it can be turned off).

I couldn't pull up the events calendar in Firefox (BIG annoyance), but got to it with IE. Right now, it looks like they're mainly booking acts that would often be openers at the Firehouse. That's not bad, since newer bands could use a friendly venue. And it looks like they'll have an occasional "bigger" act.

I'll have to get by the place sometime soon.

I haven't been yet, even though it's four block from my place.

However, I hear that beers are expensive, and that it's all Coors Light, Miller Lite, Budweiser. The best beer they have there is Shiner. I like Shiner and all, but...

Kevin,
Unlike some Houston venues, at least his has a calendar. Have you test-run the new Netscape 8.0-beta? It has a pretty neat feature where it can render using Mozilla's engine or IE's and you can save the settings so that it'll use the same one whenever you go to that particular site. I've been using it at work for a week or so and while I'm still getting used to the features, it's pretty neat.

Evan: I think Jim Goode is aiming for the crowd that wants something between Blanco's and the Mucky Duck. :)

Laurence: Yes! When?

TP: Then a blogger gathering is perfect for ya!

Alex: Haven't tried the new NS. I definitely prefer Goode's calendar over the nonexistent Blanco's calendar.

Cooder Graw played a free show tonight at the County Line...good stuff and Bleu Edmondson is playing at another club tonight as well. I'd have gone to Bleu, but it's a work night.

SA is a great place for good alt.country/Texas/Americana music.

I did catch Hayes Carll at Mucky Duck and he's damn good. It's good to see another venue in Houston.

Kevin, you need to come out to SA/N. Braunfels again.

Later...

Louis: I know, I know. I've gotten outta the Texas country music habit the past few months, but I'm trying to work my way back into it. Planning a Randy Rogers show for sure in a couple of weeks, and maybe a Goode Co trip in the meantime to check out the place.

I don't know why, but I just can't get into Hayes Carll. I've tried a few times, but I just can't get into the guy's music!

I'd be careful running netscape, there is a big unpatched hole in the code that Firefox fixed but netscape mozilla did not. Since mozilla is now officially dead, there will be no more development work on it and it is unlikely that the hole will ever get fixed.

put the browser down and step away slowly and nobody will get hurt....

Maybe this Armadillo gathering should be a "Meet BlogHouston Crew" one? That way, you and Anne and Callie can hold court.
