Reader Participation Time
I'm getting tired of this little blog in its current configuration.
I'm not sure any more if it's a personal blog, or a sports blog, or a media blog, or a Danger Train blog or what.
Margaritas with Laurence last week got me thinking that maybe it's time to think about a new domain name and a redesign and who knows what -- maybe even a domain with room for some other bloggers or just plain goofy content.
Honestly, I don't know. But it may be time to shake things up a bit.
So, it's reader participation time -- any suggestions of fun domain names that I should think about?
Have at it in the comments, but beware that the comment spam filter may well eat the really entertaining ones. :)

I vote for just plain goofy. The news lately has varied depressing or boring. A bit of serious goofiness is in order.
I thought hyperbole.com/org/net would be great for a general goofiness site, sort of a warning right there in the domain name that nothing should be taken seriously and humors answer to reductioadabsurdum all rolled into one, but those names all appear to be taken.

Maybe Reductio Ad Absurdum IS the perfect domain name for this sort of thing... and already purchased. Hmm...

Oddly, I've been doing a lot of domain name hunting lately considering a change. It's kind of surprising the domain names that are still available. Of the fifteen I'm mulling over, nine had open *.com's and all but three had open *.net's.
No real suggestions for you except a plea not to do the tired adjective/noun one-two punch (Assymetrical Information, Heretical Ideas, etc.) that have kinda been done to death.

I have no suggestions for a great and clever domain name. As you can tell from my blog, I'm really clever at names.
OK, the sports posts make my eyes glaze over, but that's just because I'm an idiot when it comes to sports.
I love the danger train stuff. I have found myself using "We're world class!" in daily conversations. (Thanks a lot for that.)
I confess I've gotten tired of reading blogs that are a rehash of blogs that are a rehash of blogs of the same news items.
Yawn.
Go for a new, non-gray layout. And a pet photo or two. That's about all the help I can give you.

I don't like change. Hasn't publiustx been around for longer than most other blogs? In fifty years it might have the record of being the oldest blog -- the Fortnum & Mason of blogs. I like Julie's idea of the pet photos, though. We don't see enough of Kiwi. And while my eyes also glaze over the f**tb@!! articles, I giggle every time Chief Hurtt appears on television. You're simply in a rut, Kevin. It will all blow over soon.

Keep the domain name, because it takes a while to build the brand. You are world-class.
As for the content, the Isley Brothers said it best: "It's your thing/ Do what you wanna do." (But if you switch your focus to pet photos, does this mean I have to go out and get a dog?)

Keep the Danger Train and "We Are World Class." In fact, trademark them! And give all those Lee P. Brown stories a section.

I wouldn't change the name of the blog, Kevin. It's been around a long time. It's your brand name. Why don't you just revamp your graphics, and maybe use more pictures. You could thrown in a few foreign phrases here and there to give it an extra zip, French, Latin, whatever. Good luck.

Regardless of the domain, just post whatever you wish to post about. Your blog. We'll still read. And on things we start to read, but don't find interesting, we'll skim.

How about kicking the rage level up a notch, and rant about the fact that American citizens are victims of decades of wrong-headed rulings by renegade and rogue judges seemingly acting in ways similar to the German National Socialists of the 1930's.

I wonder if BlogHouston getting all the 'power posts' might leave you feeling this blog is neglected? I enjoy the media-bashing here as well as BlogHouston, and the 'digging for the truth' stories you too (sudden acceleration series was cool).
I like Laurence's domain name suggestion. It has a *we're desperately seeking approval* quality to it, which amuses and annoys me at the same time. Perfect!

I say slap on a fresh coat of paint and maybe move the Danger Train counter over to blogHouston. Other than that, I wouldn't change anything... not even the name.

I would keep the domain name as it is, but turn up the content several notches. The fact is, here in Houston, we have no local "Bend" on the news, without it getting tangled in ideology of one side or the other. I suggest expanding your format to incorporate sections of current news (heavy local and state with links to national/international coverage), with editorial and reader comments included.
A site to catch up on the news and add my two cents would beat the daylights out of whats out there now for anyone looking for houston centric sites.
Just keep your light perspective and continue throwing the change-up on the 3 & 1 count;

I personally hope you go with the 'one blog fits all' tradition. Seperate blogs for seperate subjects is booooooring, and dang hard for me to keep up with. If you must be Mr. Seperate-issue-seperate-blog, you could always register the domain name and point it at the relevant category archives.

You got your obscure Houston reference. You got your pet tie in. You got your irreverent 'tude. And, if you look at it kinda sideways and say it real fast with a Stephen King accent, you got a high class sort of northeastern Kennedy clan sort of cachet, which I think is really all you've been lacking.
If it was me, though, I wouldn't change anything. Except more dog photos. (Abbye made me type that.)
