Parcells Does Some Teaching
It looks like Parcells took to a little teaching at practice yesterday (right).
I suspect that everything was a bit overblown by the writer. It strikes me that the real news is the emergence of Willie Blade at the jumbo defensive tackle position, and the individual attention he is getting from Parcells. I think Parcells thinks he's found a player.
Parcells came in needing to find answers at cornerback, defensive tackle, quarterback, and running back. Cornerback is the only area that looks like it will be okay. If Blade could hold down the DT position, then two out of four would be a good start for next year. I don't think they have a QB or RB on the roster who will be a starter next year (maybe even this year if rumors about Ray Lucas are correct).
Here is a major setback though:
Offensive guard Larry Allen watched his second consecutive day of practices from a stationary bike on the sideline. Allen has complained of a swollen right ankle.Parcells is lying. The Cowboys are counting on Larry Allen to return to some semblance of the good player he once was. If that does not happen, it will be a setback nearly as big as Tony Boselli's "career" with the Houston Texans. Larry Allen sitting his ass on the exercise bike instead of practicing is not a good sign. Not at all.Coach Bill Parcells seems to be adopting a take-him-or-leave-him attitude toward Allen.
"I'm not concerned about it," Parcells said. "If he's there, he's there. If he's not, we'll deal with it."
