Because, you know, running red lights is just fine....
If they'd hit a car after running a red light, would that also reflect poorly on the hit car?
It's hard to believe Houston drivers are so incompetent. (True, individual Austin drivers seem to be worse -- they have a tendency to stop at red lights and then turn left across oncoming traffic -- but there are fewer of them.)

After nearly ten years living here, I don't think I can be surprised any longer at the things Houston drivers do. :)
Not that I've seen it all -- goodness knows, that's not true (as the folks driving in the Main Street Line fountains earlier this year proved) -- but I just don't think the extent of their CREATIVITY can surprise me any more. We ARE world class in that regard! woo!

I've seen people driving down the freeway with a newspaper open on the steering wheel.
Houston drivers really *are* worse. The accident rate per 100 million miles driven is 200 in Houston; the state average is only 146.

Houston drivers ARE bad...but...didn't METRO know this before they put a light rail line down the center of Main st? Did driving abilities deteriorate the instant the choo choo took on its first passenger?
