A Blast From The Past

Some of you may remember the old gaming firm, Strategic Simulations Inc, which made realistic (for the time) games of strategy for 8-bit computers produced by Apple, Commodore, and Atari back in the day.

Douglas Kern at Tech Central Station points out that one of their old games, President Elect 88, is available on the web in a Windows-compatible format.

Kern discusses the fun he's been having by configuring the game to simulate the 2004 election, and claims that his approximation of President Bush wins in most of his scenarios. It's obviously not a well-defined Monte Carlo analysis, but still kind of fun. Kern solicits reader results in his column, so if playing around with an old 8-bit political simulation from 1988 is your cup of tea, by all means go for it.
