Site Disclaimer and Info

This is the obligatory page where I explain the site's policies and such.

Content
This is a personal site where I carry on about all manner of subjects. The site contains material that some might consider rude, profane, offensive, or otherwise objectionable -- but all within the purview of the First Amendment. Young children should probably not view this website without adult supervision, if at all. Liberals might want to have a strong drink.

Accessibility and Standards
The current version (6.x) of this website utilizes valid cascading style sheets and XHTML 1.0. It is written as much as possible to conform to W3C standards. Unfortunately, older browsers are spotty in terms of standards compliance. The site has been tested and renders properly on most modern browsers (Mozilla, Opera, Safari, IE). My preferred browser is Mozilla Firefox.

Email and Privacy
I consider all email to me that is generated by the content on this website as fair material for publication on the site. As a courtesy, I will most likely attempt to secure your permission should I decide to publish said email, but be forewarned that I consider this a courtesy, not a requirement. If you would rather I not publish material you might email me, please indicate this explicitly in the body of your email.

Comments
The comment feature is intended to host polite conversation related to blog posts, and comments are welcome and encouraged.

Unfortunately, trolling and rude behavior have become entirely too common on political blogs, and I have no interest in hosting such activities. Therefore, I've instituted a few ground rules for comments:

  1. Disagreement is fine, but please try to be courteous to me and other commenters. While some of us know each other personally, most commenters here do not. Why be discourteous to strangers?
  2. No flames or rude behavior. Some people think it's great sport to engage in nasty, personal attacks on the web. If that's your cup of tea, go start your own blog or find another place to do it. It's not allowed here.
  3. Comments should be directly relevant to the post in question, or to ensuing conversation. Comments are not a place for commenters to bring up personal grudges against me, my politics, my friends, or other commenters.
  4. Spam-like comments advertising websites, causes, or the like are not allowed. I provide TextAds through AdBrite at very cheap rates. If you want to advertise on this site, submit an advertisement for my consideration. It won't be allowed in the comments.
  5. I am the final authority on these rules, so if you're at all in doubt if something is allowed, err on the side of caution. It won't kill you to be nice.

Finally, I'm going to borrow from friend Julie Neidlinger's policy of disinviting commenters from the blog. Commenters who insist on trolling in disregard of the rules above will be disinvited from participation here. To borrow from Julie, there is no reason for me to invite you on to my property, watch you litter it, and then welcome you back for more of the same. Bans and disinvitations are distasteful, but not as distasteful as rude trolls.

Editing of Posts
I do occasionally edit writing after it has been posted when I discover typos, grammar, or style errors. I do not make wholesale changes to content after the fact. I will occasionally update a post after the original posting, which is usually designated by an (Update) indicator at the bottom of the post. Very rarely, I will post something and then almost immediately delete it because I decide I haven't covered the topic well, or the subject matter isn't something I want to address after all. It's extremely rare, but it does happen on occasion.

Trackback
Trackback spammers have rendered track unusable. I now use Technorati to track posts that link to blog posts here.
