Happy 2012, Kevin.

I have noticed that the blogging among you (well, you and Anne, anyway!) has dropped to almost none! Anne is so buried in work, health activities, and (most of all) family stuff, she doesn't always get her email read! Txt msgs are the next best thing to get her attention! She has discovered that kids don't get easier as they get older -- even after they go off to school somewhere out of town!!

I think your social, grilling, wine, travel ... activities are much more FUN, too!!

Here's hoping my 403(b)'s rise some -- because that'd mean everyone's 403(b)'s and 401(k)'s and such would also be rising in value. The first 3 quarters of 2011 were just plain AWFUL (no big secret), but I refuse to say that things couldn't get worse. I know they could. My son is predicting mucho improvement ... and I hope and pray he's right.

I'm also hoping and praying for GOOD THINGS to happen on Nov 6th!!

Onward ...

Happy New Year my friend. Hopefully in 2012 we can see you and Callie more than our schedules allowed in the 2nd half of 2011. Wish your dad and Callie's family a happy 2012 as well.

Oh, nice!! I hope the deeper garden works out better for the tomatoes.

I did not know that about herbs and stress. Clearly I have some research to do.

Phillips' NFL headcoaching tenures have pretty much always had the exact same trajectory, right? Take over a good team, go to the playoffs then steadily decline until he gets the axe. That seems to point to a coach who does a bunch of things right...however, also completely ruins the culture of a team. For a guy known as being so handsoff...well, that's a solid explanation.

Evan,

I do agree that Turner has underachieved as a head coach with his talent. Fine offensive coordinator. Not such a great head coach.

That being said, he's had more than a few moments at San Diego where you've had to look at his team and think it was a legit Super Bowl contender. And he has made the playoffs.

Even Turner's degree of underachieving success would be a big step forward for Smith/Kubiak! :)

Gary,

Parcells did not enjoy playoff success, which is one reason he got to go away.

But he did rebuild what had become a pathetic football organization, and left a lot of talent for whoever would succeed him. The Cowboys became a serious football organization again with a football man in charge.

He also left with the ominous warning that nobody would even remember he'd been there in a few years. With Coach Cupcake and Jerruh doing things their way, that proved to be exactly right. That 1-7 debacle to start this season did not resemble anything that Parcells has ever been a part of.

I have a bad feeling a year from now, Bob McNair will finally be considering bringing in a football man and chasing off all the yes-men prayer partners he has put in charge of his operation. But I hope I'm wrong. It would be nice if the hometown team could make the playoffs every once in a while. In some sport!

Could you compare how many playoff game Coach Cupcake won in Dallas versus Coach Serious?

Thanks in advance.

It could be worse...we could have gotten Norv Turner, who has consistently taken championship level talent and failed to win playoff games (or even make them!)
