Grilled fish (and some other yummy stuff)
Today, I successfully grilled some beautiful (on-sale-at-Kroger) salmon fillets.
This is a milestone of sorts. Usually , my efforts at grilling fish are an absolute disaster. So much so that I had pretty much given up trying.
But, as we get older, we become more cognizant of needing to eat more fish and chicken. And since grilling is my main method of preparing food... time to have another go at it.
Thanks to our good friend Google, the fact that lemon and olive oil are a perfect marinade for about any non-beef meat, and my trusty Lodge Logic grill, the salmon turned out just fine.
The horiatiki salad (with veggies from the T'afia farmer's market) and the Dry Comal Creek Savignon Blanc were the perfect complements. MMMMMM.... healthy, glycemic-index-friendly dining doesn't have to be a drag! Not at all.
The BIG indulgence later is likely to be some Greek yogurt (no sugar added -- sour, by sugary American standards) and honey.... MMMM!

Float Trip
It's time for the annual float trip, which means more silence here.
I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend (as we get ours started a little early).

Back!
We rolled into Houston last yesterday afternoon, a little late but without the problems of the trip over (although both KLM jets were late -- KLM cannot seem to make an on-time departure, even from their main airport first flight of the day for the aircraft in question).
Still fighting a bit of jet lag, but with any luck that will work itself out tomorrow.
I kept a pretty detailed (handwritten) travel journal this time, and will probably backfill the blog with those notes eventually. And photos.
But maybe not for a few days. :)

Greece Trip: 05/14/08 (Weds) -- AMS to IAH (The End)

I may fill them in a little here, but this is mostly just a chronological dump from what's in my notebook. I regret that I've inevitably lost some detail this way, but I really got into Paros and didn't feel like writing in detail.
- Walk to the airport from the Hilton. Plenty of time. No surprises. This is how I like it.

Greece Trip: 05/09/08 (Fri) -- Toodling around paros

I regret that I've inevitably lost some detail this way, but I really got into Paros and didn't feel like writing in detail.
- Breakfast at the coffeeshop just underneath our room at the hotel. The hotel offers breakfast during the high season, but we're still a bit early, so the coffeeshop is just fine (the omelettes are actually quite good, if pricey). We get to watch all goings on. And the Parian waitress is cute, so that's nice too.

Greece Trip: 05/07/08 (Weds) -- More (cold and windy) Amorgos
Awake after a good night's sleep. The beds are really comfy at the studios, although the heater clicks and clacks all night long. The showers are also nice (not always the case in some Greek hotels/studios), as is the homemade breakfast of (really orange!) scrambled eggs, Greek coffee, toast and biscotti. We're slow risers again, which is good, as I'm still dragging for some reason. Delayed jet lag? Beats me.

The breakfast at Hotel Glaros is pretty light. Nice to have the coffee, but happy I brought some South Beach meal bars. I like a decent breakfast.

Greece Trip: 05/01/08 (Thurs) -- We made it!
It's my first time through Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG). It's big. We walked tons. And took a train. And rode conveyor belts. And sorted out confusing signs. But eventually found our way.
